CORAL GABLES — He had a surname and an attitude familiar to old-school Hurricanes fans.

“I’ve got a chip on my shoulder,” said Scott Patchan, a 6-foot-6, 245-pound freshman trying to earn playing time at rush end. “I’ve got to work hard and compete and help my team win the Coastal.”
Patchan, whose father, Matt, was part of UM’s first two national championship teams (1983 and ‘87) as a left tackle, wasn’t the only fresh-faced Hurricane who has fast found a new home.
