The Pestana South Beach Art Deco Hotel is the first foray into the United States by the Portuguese Pestana Hotels & Resorts group. It opened in Miami in April 2013. This property, with 97 rooms as well as two two-bedroom suites spread over four gleaming white and sky blue Art Deco buildings encircling a small pool, aims for a retro beach vibe, with large framed black and white photos of buxom beach bunnies from the 1940s and 1950s. A few things killed the breezy vibe during my one-night stay this January, though: luggage haphazardly piled up in a mound in the lobby, and an elevator that didn’t work. I had to climb flights of stairs — in a stairwell with scuffed walls — to get to my room.Location
