Staff and invited guests explore the new Sensory Garden at Pinecrest Gardens on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015. The Village of Pinecrest and Pinecrest Gardens funded and supported the initiative to create the Sensory Garden. It features a pondless water fountain, music stations, a wheelchair-accessible planter, and plants that can be explored by touch, taste or scent. The calming, secure environment can be used to promote learning, build social skills, or can be enjoyed by those seeking a healing setting, said Pinecrest Gardens Educational Program Coordinator Lisa Toy. She is the designer and project manager of the Sensory Garden. Thursday’s opening of the garden included steelpan drum music by Aeron Jones, a music education master’s degree student at Florida International University. Pinecrest Gardens is at 11000 Red Rd.
