The Miami-based street artist Lebo (real name David Lebatard) created a jazz-inspired mural titled “Bee-Bop Into Outer Space” in downtown Hollywood, the city where he grew up — which is nestled between between Miami and Fort Lauderdale — last summer, but now local officials and residents are up in arms because the artist allegedly deviated from the city-approved rendering and created a work that looks too much like graffiti. “We don’t want it to start looking like a ghetto over there,” Patricia Asseff, Hollywood’s City Commissioner, told the Miami Herald. “There are many people not happy with the direction we are taking down there.”
