Just as the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act in June 2013 and ordered the federal government to recognize legally married same-sex couples, LGBT activists in Florida ramped up efforts to undo the state’s 2008 constitutional gay-marriage ban. Eighteen months later, it appears undone and same-sex couples are expected to marry, as early as Monday.
