CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Technically, that was not a technical.

At least that’s what Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams told the media after he got hit with a technical foul with 13:56 left in the Hokies’ 76-52 loss at Miami on Wednesday night.

“I didn’t know I had gotten one,” Williams said of his first technical as an ACC coach. “I asked all three of those [referees] when they were administering the free throws what happened, and they said, ‘We gave you a technical.’

“I said: ‘Which one of you was going to tell me?’ They each said they assumed that one of the others had told me.”

As for what he did wrong, Williams said he was never told.

“No profanities,” he said of his behavior. “No hand gestures.”
