AVENTURA, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida activist took to the streets Saturday for a good cause with her annual Walk in My Shoes event.

Child sexual abuse survivor Lauren Book walked through Miami-Dade County as part of her sixth annual Walk in My Shoes campaign. The walk aims to raise awareness about child sexual abuse and empowering survivors.

“We started last week, and we’ve actually been walking for a week now,” said Book. “We’re in the middle of our 1,500-mile walk, from Key West to Tallahassee, to bring about awareness for childhood sexual abuse.”

Book, a nationally recognized child protection advocate, told 7News she had a very hectic Saturday. “It’s a great day. We started at Sylvester Cancer Center, walked all the way to Krop [Senior] High School with your Miami Dolphins,” she said.
