It was great to see a car show deep down in the West Kendall area. The last couple of years they would have a car show on SW 117th & 120th also in the Kendall area. Every month it would get larger, but in late 2014 they stopped meeting. Hopefully, the tradition will continue at this new location on Kendall Drive & 157th Avenue.
It all started when US Navy Veteran Leo Montiel, a muscle car enthusiast & Coral Park class of 82 alumni, came down to visit his family. He gathered around with some friends from High School at a local restaurant in West Kendall, one of those friends being Eddie Arango. Eddie is another Muscle car enthusiast. When he looked at the shopping center of the restaurant where we had met, he said, “this is a great spot for a car show.” The rest was history.
With a couple of days of planning, the organizers had an average of 200+ muscle car enthusiasts walking around and reminiscing. There were at least 30 + cars ranging from a 1970 Dodge Charger to a 1970 Pontiac 400 Trans Am. There were also some 70’s & 80’s Corollas & other imports. The “Show Stopper” was a 1971 Camaro Z/28 with a small block 454. This car was intense, hence winning the West Kendall News “Show Stopper” award for April 2015!
We interviewed some folks as well promising to bring some incredible collectors, like the Eleanor, a 1967 Ford Mustang dressed to resemble a Shelby GT500.
We certainty do look forward to many more of these family gatherings. This show is projected to happen the 1st Saturday of every month, May 2nd is the next projected day.
