MASON, Ohio – The Miami University volleyball team took time out to have a little fun on Sunday, participating in the Bigg Dig Classic as part of the AVP’s Cincinnati Open. The RedHawks took part in an exhibition match at the Linder Family Tennis Center, which took place between the professional team’s women’s and men’s championship matches. Money raised from ticket proceeds will go to help support the team’s European trip in May 2016.

Sophomore libero Maeve McDonald and freshman outside hitter Stela Kukoc represented the Miami team (only two student-athletes were allowed to participate from each side to comply with NCAA rules). They were joined by a group of Miami staff, alums and celebrities that featured hockey head coach Rico Blasi, associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator Jennie Gilbert, assistant director of development Scott Usher, WKRC channel 12 news anchor Cammy Dierking, WLWT channel 5 reporter Jenell Walton, FC Cincinnati general manager Jeff Berding, WGRR and Warm 98 Cincinnati radio personality JD Hughes and special guest coach “Jungle” Jim Bonaminio, the founder and owner of Jungle Jim’s International Market. Cheering them on from the sidelines, both the Miami cheerleaders and dance teams made appearances.
