Come October, Miami residents could see an increased police presence around town, as city and police department brass announced that 40 new officers will join the staff in the upcoming fiscal year.
Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado, City Manager Daniel J. Alfonso and Police Chief Rodolfo Llanes on Thursday announced the boost in police hiring during a press conference where they pledged the new officers will address concerns about crime. The plan will go before city commissioners at Thursday’s meeting during the first reading of the 2016 budget.
With the new officers, city officials said, Miami Police Department will have the highest number of sworn police officers.
