DAVIE, Fla. — Logan Thomas was far from a stranger to the Miami Dolphinswhen he became available this weekend via the waiver wire.
According to Miami general manager Dennis Hickey, the team had its eye on Thomas dating back to the 2014 draft. The Arizona Cardinals selected Thomas in the fourth round, while the Dolphins elected not to draft a quarterback last year.
But when Arizona cut Thomas after just one year, Hickey saw an opportunity to double back.
“We like the skill set, the size, the arm strength and the arm talent,” Hickey said of Thomas. “We saw development from Year 1 to Year 2, and we’re anxious to get [Thomas].”
Hickey believes Thomas can benefit from being in the same quarterback room with Dolphins starter Ryan Tannehill and veteran backup Matt Moore. Thomas threw just nine passes in his rookie year and completed one of them for an 81-yard touchdown. This is the first time in three seasons the Dolphins will begin the regular season with three active quarterbacks.
