Match cancelled abruptly due to unsafe field, so Abby’s farewell tour shortened to three

Abby Wambach’s four-match farewell tour was shortened to three early Sunday morning when the U.S. Soccer Federation abruptly cancelled Sunday night’s match in Honolulu over concerns about unsafe conditions on the turf field at Aloha Stadium. The 35-year-old Pittsford native and international star announced in late October that she’d retire after the final match of the World Cup champions’ Victory Tour on Dec. 16 in New Orleans against China.

But the big question coming from the Big Island is why wasn’t this field inspected long before this match?
