Over the last 50 years, Judy Blume’s young adult literature (“Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “Forever”) has imprinted on women of a certain age the lessons of life, love, sex, boyfriends and friendships. But with the release this month of her new novel “In the Unlikely Event,” Blume’s first work for adults in 17 years, the Key West resident plans to take it easy on supplying formative wisdom. “This is my farewell,” Blume told the Los Angeles Times in an interview. “Not in any bad sense of the word. I’ve just decided it really is.” The new book, as in most of her novels, is full of autobiographical elements, following Mimi, a 15-year-old girl who lives in a part of New Jersey that’s struck by three passenger airplane crashes within a three-month period. (Similar events happened to Blume in eighth grade.) Blume will appear at 7:30 p.m. Monday night at Temple Judea (5500 Granada Blvd., Coral Gables) to discuss the book in conversation with WLRN’s Alicia Zuckerman. The $27.95 book entitles buyers for admission for two and a book signing. 305-442-4408 or BooksandBooks.com.
