DeMarre Carroll credited “the basketball gods” for being on the Atlanta Hawks’ side after Paul Pierce’s tying three-pointer at the buzzer was overruled in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal victory against the Washington Wizards.

Having the favor of good fortune seemed like an odd perspective because it has rarely been with a Hawks franchise that is in the Eastern Conference finals for the first time.
