Officials in sun-splashed South Florida are concerned about a newly-arrived invasive creature that could do significant damage to the region’s ecosystem as early as this summer.
The New Guinea flatworm has been spotted in Miami, and even snail scientists are grossed out by this species, according to the Miami Herald. The bugs host a brain-eating parasite and are covered in toxic slime. A New Guinea flatform wards off potential attackers by spewing goo from its mouth, which is located on its belly, the Herald report also said.
