The new CBS comedy (Sept. 21, 8:30 p.m.) looks at multiple stages of life through a multigenerational, extended family, with James Brolin and Dianne Wiestportraying the parents of three adult children (Betsy Brandt, Thomas Sadoski and Colin Hanks), two of whom have their own spouses and children.
The pilot, broken into four intertwining story pieces, looks at the various family members. One son (Sadoski) is at the beginning of a relationship; another one (Hanks) is a new dad; a daughter (Brandt) is about to send one of her three children off to college; and their father (Brolin and Wiest) is celebrating his birthday with a mock funeral in order to be able to enjoy what friends and family say about him while he’s still alive.
