Hialeah resident and pharmacy owner Tamara Esponda pleaded guilty Friday to her involvement in an $1.6 million Medicare fraud scheme, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.
Esponda pleaded guilty to one count of health care fraud, and her sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 13. Esponda, 47, was indicted in June as part of a nationwide Medicare fraud takedown that authorities called the largest in U.S. history. Another of the indicted South Florida pharmacy owners pleaded guilty in July.
